Pathology coding

Can anyone please help with this question?

When a patient has multiple biopsies and 88305 is billed in multiple units and the biopsies are in multiple sites,
do you attach all of the diagnosis to the 88305 x (number of path), or just attach one diagnosis.

the coding class reference book we have on file states to only attach one diagnosis… I feel that all of the them should be attached for correct reporting.

2016 G-Codes, Definitive Drug Testing, G0480, G0481, G0482, & G0483 OPINIONS PLEASE!

When using codes G0480, G0481, G0482, & G0483 it’s my understanding that you do not and can not bill these codes with more than one unit.
I’ve read the description for all codes and that’s the only way I understand it. Please tell me if I am wrong!

UHC has just started denying the old codes and I am sending corrected claims on them, but my supervisor is telling me to bill for 4 units on G0480 because that’s the number of drugs tested for, I explained my thoughts on it but she is not seeing it that way.

Please tell me your thought!! And if I am wrong then why 4 different codes for different amounts of drug classes???

Please give me opinions, I would greatly appreciate them!!!

CPT 45381 Injection/Tattoo

I’m looking for a DX to link to injection/tattoo to an area of the colon.

Right now, the providers I am coding for often use it to mark an area to keep an eye on that may need more investigation or possible surgery later down the road. Often this happens after the removal of a polyp. I would rather not use the polyp DX as the tattoo is not pointing to the polyp, but rather the tissue around the polyp.

Any suggestions?

20552 vs 20553

I am sure that I am overthinking this and making it harder on myself. Our physician states in her note "Left and Right SI joint injection administered to lumbar". I realize that 20552 states 1 or 2 muscles and 20553 states 3 or more muscles. Since the physician stated Left & Right injection I coded this case using 20552-RT, 20552-RT-59. It was denied by carrier. Of course my only other selection left is 20553. I just want to make sure that I am understanding the usage of these two codes as I am thinking lumbar has two separate locations (Left & Right). Thank you in advance for any help with this matter.

How do you get started ?

Hi everyone,
I would love your input.
I’m curious to know how hard is it to get into this field?
I have no background in working at a medical office.
I come from the animal medicine field. Being a foreign vet.
I’m studying for for CPC which goes pretty well and i like it.
I was just wondering if any one has experience with it, or just know how hard or easy will it be for me to find a job?
I almost feel like i need to take the medical billing class because i never worked in a medical office. even though it seems like something you can learn as you go!?

hope to hear some comments
Thank you
