National Women’s Health Week

National Women’s Health Week is a week to serve as a reminder for women to make their health a priority as well as building positive, lifelong healthy habits. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health oversees National Women’s Health Week. This year is the 20th annual National Women’s Health Week and lasts from May 12, 2019 to May 18, 2019.

It takes 21 days to make something a habit, so use this week as a jump start!

Even if it is taking the longer way to your car from work or a 15 minute at home workout, any sort of effort is better than none at all. This can be difficult to remember as we see being active as a laborious or even intense activity, which it can, but doesn’t always have to be. Meeting your step goal each day or filling your exercise ring are good, basic goals to begin with.

Like being active, eating healthy doesn’t mean eating a salad two times per day every single day. Make healthier choices for yourself is what really counts, instead of fried chicken choose grilled and instead of fries try vegetables. These are simple, easy changes to make whether you are eating at home or out.

Mental health is so easy to forget if we are just thinking of the physicality part of health. Be sure you are getting enough sleep each night and managing your stress with healthy behaviors. Simple hobbies like knitting or calligraphy can help you relax without taking too much time or thinking for a relaxing mental break.

Use this week as a time to reflect on your personal health goals and get motivated to get to it and stick to reaching your goals. Use this week as motivation to make some real lifestyle choices! Happy National Women’s Health Week!
