I recently got a job doing hospital outpatient surgery coding. The lady who trained me said EPIC does not calculate Anesthesia charges. She would take the charge EPIC came up with (based on start/stop time, base units etc) and multiply it by the base units she came up with. So, in some cases she would take a charge of say $ 157.00 and multiply it by 8 to come up with $ 1256.00 for a Colonoscopy. Another example, EPIC calculates the Anesthesia charge for a Rotator Cuff Repair to be approx $ 500.00. But she would take that charge and multiply it by the base units, which say are 12, and charge $ 6000.00 for Anesthesia. I think that is wrong. I think EPIC calculates it for us. Does anyone know for sure? I have contacted several people I work for and no one can seem to answer this question. In the meantime, I’ve been told to not send out any billing until we get an answer. I’m sitting on a few hundred dollars worth of claims that I can’t send out! I’m so frustrated!
Thank in advance!
