PRIMARY PURPOSE Responsible for determining and editing ICD-10-CM with follow-ups to the responsible departments for CPT code changes according to established guidelines. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS Education: – Must successfully complete an approved coding program. Experience: – Minimum of one (1) year experience required. Certification/Registration/Licensure: – Requires certification through the American Association of Procedural Coders (AAPC) as one of the following: – Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – Certified Professional Coder (CPC-A)* – Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) – Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) * Consideration will also be given to candidates with AHIMA credentials with RHIA, RHIT, CCS and CCS-P. Skills or Special Abilities: – Must be able to demonstrate basic coding skills. – Must score a minimum of 70% on a pre-employment professional coding test. Contract coders with a proven coding accuracy rate of 95% at Parkland Health and Hospital System are exempt from this requirement. – Must have knowledge of medical terminology, the human disease process, anatomy and physiology. – Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of computer software applications including MS office. – Must be able to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.   This is an on – site position.
